After delivery, one can return to physical activity or exercise within days and begin walking. However, everyone is different and going back to exercising should be gradual. I recommend getting an RX from your doctor to begin a more rigorous exercise so that you can also be aware of any concerns or special needs you may have in recovery. Most likely, you will be scheduled for a 6-week check-up appointment postnatal with your doctor, and that is a good time to get the go-ahead from your doctor to begin a personal training specialized exercise program. Most of the physiologic and morphological changes of pregnancy persist 4-6 weeks postpartum. Therefore, your personal training can resume as soon as it is physically and medically safe.
